Social Media a Great Tool for Talking About Social Media: Study

According to a music industry social media study published this week in Social Media Today magazine, “Social Media is a great tool for talking to others about social media.” Bands everywhere, the study goes on to explain, are using social media tools like Twitter and MySpace to talk about their Facebook page, LiveJournal blog, and Picasa sites. According to social media expert and guitarist for Heretic 3, Neil Keian, “Using a social media tool like YouTube, my band can tell our Flickr friends to join us on technorati, and when they do they can digg our posts about how amazing Tumblr is for promoting us on imeem.” According to social media experts, the future of music lies in successfully using social media to attract fans, which generates buzz, which promotes brand allegiance to a band’s social media presence. Neil Keian agrees: “In 2009, my band successfully used Twitter to attract over 130 followers from broad spectrum of the music loving public – people in real estate who I guess want to sell me a house when I get successful, people who tweet about the future of social media, people who have ways to make a lot of money using social media … all kinds of fans. It’s amazing.”

Red Light Bulb Makes Huge Difference in Basement You Tube Video

Catapult’s seven-minute jam video, filmed for YouTube in drummer Rob J. Garnet’s basement, was transformed by the judicious placement of a table lamp with a red light bulb in it, say all three Catapult band members. The video features piled boxes, half-empty paint buckets, old bicycles, a non-functioning TV from the 80s, and the three Catapult members in Bermuda shorts improvising a seven-minute instrumental song called “Untitled Song” from a planned EP titled “EP.” The video, uploaded earlier this week, was not quite up to the band’s standards. Then, suddenly, Garnet came up with the concept of lighting the dark basement with a light bulb, perhaps a blue or red one. One trip to Canadian Tire later, the filming resumed. The “ambience” of a red light bulb added “that special something,” band members agreed. Catapult hopes soon to begin work on their second video, in Garnet’s basement, for the instrumental composition called “Second Untitled Song.”

Wicked Orphans Sign Multi-Dollar Deal with U-Haul

Wicked Orphans announced earlier today that they have signed a “multi-dollar” deal with U-Haul to store their “considirable array” [sic] of gear until such time that they have a space of their own for rehearsals. According to a band spokesperson, the deal, worth over 68 dollars a month, plus taxes, was negotiated in under fifteen minutes at the U-Haul on Churchill Road, near the bridge where the IGA is. “This deal shows that the band is serious about investing in its future and getting a really kick-ass rehearsal space where we can make sweet music,” said lead guitarist Yvan Liezick. With this major business deal behind them, the band plans to focus on other business ventures such as buying guitar strings and getting a ride downtown.

Death Metal Singer Thinking About Death: Blog

Ivan Keerken, lead singer for Fredericton Death Metal Band Krussher, reported on the band’s blog today that he has been thinking about death. This is the 75th consecutive week Keerken has thought about death, having thought about buying new boots seventy-six weeks ago. “I am filled with thoughts of hate,” reported the singer, “and there are no words to express the icy depths to which this hate sinks, in seething, unrelenting, death-filled hatefulness.” Keerken also reported that he intends to write a song about death this week for the band’s new Death-themed album, Ultimate Death II, which is a follow-up to the 2006 album, Ultimate Death I. Sales of the first album were weak, something which Keerken says fills him even now with hate and thoughts of death. However, according to the blog he is hopeful that, with new production methods, the second Ultimate Death album will have greater appeal to the hate- and death-obsessed everywhere. Also, the band hopes to release their new album on CD Baby. Details will follow later this week in a post to be titled: “Hate, Death, and CD Baby.”

Battlefields Soul Guitarist Torn Between Fighting African Poverty or Growing a Wicked Moustache

Battlefields Soul guitarist, Cal Gornie, reports that he is torn between “engaging in battle for the cause of fighting desperate African poverty” of growing a “wicked” moustache, “like dudes had over a hundred years ago.”

It all started in the Summer, when Gornie began to feel that Battlefields Soul needed a new image and a new direction creatively. “For a while I thought about how we could take our band to the next level. I realized we needed something dramatic, important, bold, and really really ambitious. So I’ve narrowed it down basically to these two things – dedicating myself to fighting poverty in Africa, and a really amazing moustache. Dude, seriously, I mean, a really amazing one.”

According to Gornie’s research, about twenty percent of Africa’s children die before the age of five; more than 800 million people go to bed hungry every day; a child dies every three seconds from AIDS and extreme poverty, often before their fifth birthday; and more than one billion people do not have access to clean water. Astonishingly , there are over twenty kinds of moustache, including the box car, gringo, abra kadabra, major, connoisseur, regent, after eight, Hungarian, Dali, English, imperial, handlebar, chevron, toothbrush, walrus, and fu manchu.
